The History of Eynsham Fire Station
Eynsham has had Firefighters dating back to around 1680 which was a group of volunteers. Although this is not an official record.
The first recorded record of the fire service in Eynsham dates back to 1814 when the Eynsham Church Vestry Council presented a new horse drawn manual pump, built by
Shand-Mason, to the Eynsham Volunteer Fire Brigade.

The pump was housed in Coats Barn at Home Farm in Mill Street where the horses were also stabled. Later on it was transferred to a garage area at the Old Bartholomew School.
The pump was kept in service for a century before being replaced by a Chevrolet van which towed a hose container and a Coventry Climax trailer pump, towed by a Bedford van.
By the end of the 1930’s the brigade moved back to Coats Barn and the Chevrolet was replace by a Ford V1 lorry with the Coventry Climax pump bolted on the back of the lorry.

With the start of World War 2 the Ford was replaced by an Austin fire engine which continued to operate from Coats Barn until the move into the Mill Street fire station in 1958.

This is where the station remained until the opening of the present station on Old Station Way in July 1985. |
